Riverby Estate Chardonnay 2009 |
The fruit for this chardonnay came from the 19 year old Mendoza clone vines, which yielded less than 2.5 tonnes per acre. It was 100% fermented in barrel and aged in French oak for just over 11 months. 35 % of the barrels were new and the remainder one or two years old.
Pale lemon in colour, this chardonnay has a powerful, rich nose exhibiting ripe stone fruit characters, peaches and nectarines, hints of caramel and butterscotch, and lovely subtle vanillin notes. On the palate it is rich and vibrant with an attractive baguetty, mealy complexity. It is elegant and spicy with peaches and cream smoothness and citrus and cashew flavours. Impeccable acid balance, beautifully integrated oak and restrained alcohol give lovely texture and balance.
This wine has tremendous concentration and impressive length with the promise of even more complexity as it evolves and develops. |
